You may have read that there are currently an unusually high number of incidents of Scarlet Fever. It generally only affects children between the ages of 2 and 8 and symptoms include a high temperature and sore throat, sometimes accompanied by vomiting. The child then develops a bright red, sandpapery, rash on their torso and their tongue becomes swollen. A quick trip to the doctor and some penicillin sorts it all out but as it is a notifiable disease (and highly contagious) we would appreciate it if you could let us know if your child has recently suffered/is suffering from it.
